Leonard "Len" Hancock, Jr.
Just after graduating from Villanova University Len was offered a position in the company by his father, Leonard, Sr. Initially reluctant, Len is in his 16th year with the company. From his start in shipping and receiving, Len has worked his way up in the corporate structure and, at one time or another, had done every job in the business – from shipping, to installation/production, and bookkeeping. Today, he specializes in operational management and he runs the day to day operations of the business. Len was appointed to the Fairmont Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors in 2008. FFCU is the second largest Credit Union in West Virginia with assets over $235,000,000. Len is married with a son and a daughter.

The founder, Leonard H. Jones, served as a Lieutenant Colonel in Europe during WWI and as he made his way across Europe he noticed that the only trucks that were able to cross the vast battle fields that had turned completely to mud were made by FWD Corporation. Impressed by these vehicles ability to move through just about any condition he told himself, “When I get out of this, I’m going to go work for that company.” And he did.
He returned from the war and went straight to Clintonville, Wisconsin, the FWD Corporation headquarters, to find a job. He was hired as a salesman and soon found himself in a successful career as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager servicing hundreds of accounts all over the Eastern United States.
Having an entrepreneurial spirit, “The Colonel” started his own FWD dealership in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1945. He was successful in his venture and shortly thereafter opened another dealership in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1946.
Having three daughters and no sons, he enlisted the help of two of his sons-in-law, R.W. Hancock Jr. and Bill Mucklow to work in the business. Those men took the reigns of “L.H. Jones Equipment Company” upon “The Colonel’s” death.
Hancock and Mucklow grew the dealership and diversified the company by selling all types of truck equipment to go along with the trucks they were selling. By the early 1970’s the business had grown substantially and Hancock and Mucklow had enjoyed great success. Tragically, Bill Mucklow was killed in a plane crash returning to Morgantown from the Harrisburg office, leaving R.W. Hancock the sole owner of the company.
Around that same time, R.W. Hancock’s sons R.W. “Bud” Hancock III and Leonard Hancock entered the business with their father learning the ins and outs of the business. While growing up Bud and Leonard spent their summers working in the shop and they were involved in the business in some way their entire lives. In 1973, Leonard moved to Harrisburg to run that location while Bud stayed in Morgantown to look after the “home office”.
Another tragedy beset L.H. Jones Equipment Company with the untimely death of R.W. Hancock in a car accident in 1975. While his sons were devastated, the company moved forward. Under Bud and Leonard’s leadership the company further diversified by selling snow removal and ice control products like snowplows and salt spreaders as well as Central Hydraulic Systems which Leonard engineered. Then, in 1985, Leonard purchased his brother Bud’s interest in L.H. Jones Equipment Company to become the sole owner.
In 1994 Leonard’s son Leonard "Len" Hancock Jr., joined L.H. Jones Equipment becoming the fourth generation in the family business. Father and son have guided the business together since then.
