Meyer - Snow Plows & Salt Spreaders

Meyer Snow Plows & Salt Spreaders
Meyer Products began building snowplows in 1926 on a farm in Newburgh, New York. It was then and there Meyer became the innovator, pioneer and leader of what would become an industry that plays a major role in wintermobility of today’s society.
The first Meyer snow plow was made out of wood and was installed on a 1926 Buick. A local newspaper published a front-page editorial about Meyer auto snow plows and highlighted the benefits of a snowplow that would fit on an automobile. The idea caught on, and customers lined up to purchase Meyer auto snow plows.
In the early forties came 4-wheel drive! The Willies Overland Commencer became the Jeep with a tractive force that was a challenge to any snowstorm. Meyer engineering developed a snow plow designed specifically for the Jeep, a snow plow that would handle more snow yet have reduced size and weight.
Operator comfort was also an important element of snow plow design, so an electric hydraulic pump was introduced that would raise and lower the plow from inside a warm cab. And with the invention of the 12 volt electrical system, the pump was redesigned to include power angling of the moldboard.
